Neelam is born in Kashmir valley, the city of beautiful gardens, peaks and lakes.

A self - taught artist, who started scribbling right from the age of two is a graduate in arts. Qualified in fashion designing from polytechnic college for women New Delhi, yet she chose art as her profession.

In 1998 she started studying and experimenting with art in various forms. After five years of extensive study, maximum by self educating process and one year in Delhi College of Arts (1999-2000), has refurbished her natural skills that carved out the real artist in her .

Neelam, a born figurative artist mostly paints full figures, often gets inspired by the ideas that need to be projected in semi - or full abstract form . At times she transforms her skills into collage or canvas installation too.

She prefers her own mix of colours and applies it to the extents of subtlety.

She has been participating in select group shows across the country.

Her art works are part of an exhibition curated by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under the aegis of the ministry of external affairs, Government of India, which is traveling around the world.

Her first solo exhibition titled " River of Colours " was in Bahrain in December, 2002.

She was also invited to Oman at the recommendation of ICCR to exhibit her art to commemorate India’s 62nd independence day in 2008. This took place at Muscat in collaboration with the Omani Society for Fine Arts sponsored by ICCR and the Indian embassy. She was felicitated by the Indian ambassador at the independence day Ceremony held at embassy in the presence of more than 500 Indian Community.

Her collectors have been from all over the world. She was assigned to paint four big size paintings for the lobby of a five star hotel "MovenPick" at Bahrain International Airport.
